Starting 19th February 2015, billions of people around the world will be celebrating Chinese Lunar New Year. The holiday is a time for families to remember the past, come together as a family and look forward to what the New Year will bring.
Chinese New Year is celebrated at the beginning of the year and 2015 marks the Year of the Goat, just one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac.
In China, the Lunar New Year is one of the most important Chinese holidays. Traditions include giving children lucky money in red envelopes – of which will always be an even amount as odd numbers are associated with cash given at funerals. The Performance of the iconic dragon and lion dances are also part of the Chinese tradition.
In the evening of the Spring Festival Eve, many people set off fireworks and firecrackers, hoping to cast away any bad luck and bring forth good luck.
Sparkstone would like to wish everyone celebrating, a very Happy Chinese New Year!
