There are no easy conclusions from footfall changes over the last year…
According to the BRC (British Retail Consortium) only out of town shopping centres show increasing numbers of shoppers in December 2014. Other studies show that the rate of decline in footfall is slowing for high streets and shopping centres.

What appears to be happening is a resettling of online and instore shopping worlds as ecommerce matures and online customers become more savvy. Customer preferences are being voiced more loudly and whilst some retailers are coping well with omni-channel strategies and 21st century customer service requirements, it is clear that others are struggling.

Relatively simple things like efficient click and collect processes that drive customers in store, effective promotions and incisive discounting will all be tools the successful retailer will use but it is astonishing to see how many retailers have disconnected legacy systems that simply cannot cope or support new technology developments.
